Total entries of 695 yearlings for the 2010 PGG Wrightson Sales in Auckland and Christchurch, are only marginally back on the record 700 that were catalogued for the 2009 sales.
The only difference of any real note, is in the Northern sale to be held on Monday, February 15th, where numbers are back from 201 to 175. This is, to a large extent, because Alabar Stud sold their draft successfully as weanlings in May.
Christchurch, from a total of 499 last year, will offer 410 over the first two days, February 16th and 17th, and 110 on Day Three, February 18th. The push back of race dates this season has unfortunately meant the much appreciated lay-day between Auckland and Christchurch can’t be fitted into this years schedule.
One noticeable change has been in the stallion ranks. Champion sire, Christian Cullen, still has the largest representation by a sire, with 81 yearlings. The Southern sale boasts 69 of them, but his12 offspring in Auckland, are a far cry from the 31 catalogued there in 2009.
